Centre, NIPSS Join Forces to Advance Women’s Economic Empowerment Policy in Kaduna

Development Research and Project Centre dRPC in collaboration with National Institute for Policy and strategic studies NIPSS Kuru jos have expressed their determination to support Kaduna State government toward ensuring Domestication of the National Women Economic Empowerment policy in the state.

The Director Partnership and Communications, Development Research and Project Centre, Mr. Hassan Aliyu Karofi made this known while speaking with Radio Nigeria shortly after a meeting with Kaduna State Commissioner for Human Services and Social Development in her office in Kaduna.

Mr Hassan Karofi explained that, the main idea for the visit was to support Kaduna State Ministry of Human Services and Social Development to domesticate the policy through either adaption or adaptation.

He noted that, In 2023, former President of Nigeria, Malam Mohammadu Buhari launched the National Policy on women economic empowerment with a view to provide policy structure at the Federal and State levels for interventions in the area of women economic empowerment.

“After the launched, the President urged Sub National levels to domesticate the policy so that it will tricycle down at the 36 states of the Federation and FCT.

“Mr Hassan Karofi pointed out that, Development Research and Project Centre with support from Ford Foundation are working with the National Institute for Policy and strategic studies to domesticate the policy at the sub National levels.

“That is why we are here in Kaduna State to meet with the Commissioner Hajiya Rabi Salisu to discuss with her the way Kaduna State will domesticate the policy”

“They developed action plan on the process to domesticate the law in Kaduna State. We are here to follow up to know where they are and we are happy that, Kaduna State Ministry of Human Services and Social Development has sent a memo to the state governor Malam Uba Sani and they will follow up with a meeting hoping that in the next two weeks, the policy will be presented at the state Executive Council”

Mr Hassan Aliyu Karofi stressed that, if the policy domesticated, it would serve as a guidance for Kaduna State to implement it policies around women and children which were key in the development of the state such as women Financial inclusion, Digital Skills for women and girls, Access to job opportunity among others.

The Director partnership and Communications gave an assurance that
Development Research and Project Centre and National Institute for Policy and strategic studies would continue to support and work with the state government to ensure that the policy came to reality.

The visit was led by the Chief Operating Officer, Gender and Public Policy Studies of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies Kuru jos, Professor Linda Kwon-Ndung while the meeting held behind closed door under the leadership of Kaduna State Commissioner for Human Services and Social Development, Hajiya Rabi Salisu and other Senior Staff of the Ministry.
