Federal Government has pledged to provide the Nigerian Defence Academy -NDA with the necessary sporting facilities and technical expertise to enable it achieve its desired objective.

Minister of Sports and Youth development, Senator John Enoh made the pledge during the opening ceremony of the annual cadets brigade inter-battalion sports week holding at the sporting complex of the academy at Afaka, Kaduna State.

Senator John Enoh observed that over the years, Nigerian Armed forces has been the shining light of Nigeria’s sports progress and achievements.

He pointed out that a lot of the sporting laurels Nigeria had recorded globally came from men and women of the armed forces.

According to the Minister, the sports week is a showcase of the best that can come out from the games, which would produce men and women that would in the near future, compete for Nigeria and win at local and international competitions.

Senator Enoh urged officials and participants to be professional throughout the competition.

Earlier in a welcome address, Commandant of the NDA, Major General John Ochai explained that sports development is an instrument of national cohesion that can be used in addressing some of Nigeria’s challenges.

He maitained that the sporting activities were aimed at inculcating the spirit of sportsmanship and aggressiveness in cadets in achieving excellence in whatever they do.

Major General Ochai commended President Bola Tinubu for providing an enabling environment and resources for the NDA to accomplish its set goals and programmes.

The weeklong sporting activities will feature football, volleyball, basketball, boxing, badminton, table tennis among others.
