Former Commissioner Elected Speaker Niger 10th Assembly

First timer legislator and former commissioner for Local Government Community Development and Chieftancy Affairs in Niger state, Barrister Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji, representing Mariga Constituency has been elected as the speaker of the tenth Assembly.

The two times Chairman of Mariga local government council emerged as the Speaker after he was nominated by  member representing Bida two constituency, Mohammed Haruna and seconded by member representing Borgu constituency, Abdulrahaman Gambo.

Also elected is the only female member in the tenth Assembly, Mrs Afiniki Dauda, representing Gurara constituency as the Deputy speaker. 

The oath of office was administered by the clerk of the house, Alhaji Abdullahi Kagara on the speaker and his Deputy, 

The new speaker later administered the oath of office on other twenty five members of the state House of Assembly.

It could be recalled that out of the twenty seven Assembly members only two members, namely Idris Vatsa representing Lapai and Mohammed Haruna representing Bida two constituency returned back to the Assembly after the March eighteen General Election. 

The speaker later asked the clerk of the house to communicate to both the executive and the judiciary that the house is now fully constituted and ready for legislative business. 

In his acceptance speech, the Speaker Niger state House of Assembly Barrister Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji who said he will provide purposeful leadership also promised not to let the assembly down.

He however thanked the Niger state Governor  Umar Mohammed Bago for upholding the tenents of democracy for not interference with the emergence of the house leadership.

According to him the house will partner with the executive to ensure that the current security challenges in parts of the state is addressed to enable the people return to their homes and farms. 

In his goodwill message  Governor Umar Mohammed Bago, expressed the readiness of the executive to work closely with the legislative arm of government to move the state to greater heights. 

Represented by his Deputy Comrade Yakubu Garba the Governor reminded the lawmakers that expectations from Nigerlites are high and therefore alot is expected from them in quality legislation that will enhance good governance.
