Residents of Sabon Titi gidan Kankara, Kano municipal local government area, were thrown into deep shock, following the dumping of a new born baby into a pit latrine.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, after an underage girl was found crying, shouting on top of her voice that her mother, had thrown her sister into the toilet pit.

Reports indicate that, neighbors of the 25 year old woman, Hauwa Muhammad alerted men of the state fire service, where a rescue team was immediately mobilized.

Narrating the incident, the Public Relations Officer Kano State Fire Service pointed out that, the fire fighters succeeded in retrieving the baby alive.

He pointed out that, the mother of the baby is suspected to be mentally retarded, and had dumped the baby unceremoniously, shortly after giving birth.

Saminu Yusif commended residents of the area, for informing the agency, and charged the public to report accidents, fire disasters, collapsed buildings, and any related incident to the nearest fire station, or through its 24 hours telephone numbers.

Radio Nigeria reports that, on Monday a 14 year old boy lost his life after accidentally slipping into a pond at Danzaki Village, Gezawa local government area of Kano.
