Uplifting the standards of girls education has been identified as part of the cardinal objectives of governor Ganduje’s led administration.
Kano state Commissioner of Education, Alhaji Ya’u Yan’shana made the indication during a session with citizens and relevant stakeholders on girls education, supported by PERL (ECP).
According to him, educational development in Kano state is a compulsory task, and part of vision and mission of the present administration.
The commissioner, pointed out that Kano state ministry of education would do everything possible to ensure timely release of funds allocated to girl child education.
Alhaji Ya’u Yan’shana commended girls education partnership (GEP), with support from PERL for their commitment, and charged philanthropists to assist in developing female education in the state.
” By what i have seen and heard, honestly you did a lot and had gone far”.
In his welcome address, former Head of Service and co-chair GEP, who doubles as special adviser to Kano state governor on free and compulsory education, Dr. Kabiru Shehu, explained that the partnership is a coalition of citizens, women groups, government officials and the media.
He charged the new commissioner to expedite action on pending issues as GEP, had assisted Kano state ministry of education to achieve success on girls education.
“Please note that we would be sending our mails without the normal bureaucracy as we are part and percel of the ministry” stated the Co- chair
In his presentation titled: Girls education partnership’ The journey so far’ , Comrade Safiyanu Lawan Bichi of Kano budget working group and member GEP, pointed out that the coalition had recorded tremendous achievements since inception.
He said, GEP had organized and disseminated findings on public policy dialogue on insecurity, dialogue on cultural issues that impede girls education in three pilot LGAs, advocacy visits to five emirate councils, among others.
“Creation of Girls education budget line in 2022 state budget, dedicating a unit for girls education,payment of 199 million naira NECO fees for some selected girls, were part of government support to the partnership”
Earlier in her remarks, state partnership facilitator, PERL (ECP) Hajara Suleiman stressed that, the new focus is targeted towards improving girl child education to ensure enrollment, retention, transition and completion for girls at all levels.
She assured of their commitment to support ,and collaborate with partners (PLANE and LAFIYA) to improve governance and learning outcomes as well as system strengthening in education among others.
Radio Nigeria reports that, Partnership to Engage Reform and Learn is a governance programme funded by the UK’s Foreign Commonwealth Development Office. (FCDO).
