PCRC Advocates N1 Million Monthly Salary for Police Constables

The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has called for the payment of a one million naira salary for Nigerian police constables due to the current hike in prices of goods and services, to adequately cater to the responsibilities of the police force in Nigeria.

PCRC National Chairman, Alhaji Magaji Ibrahim Olaniyan, made the call during a seminar held in Minna, the capital of Niger state, as part of the fortieth-year Anniversary Celebration of the state chapter of the North Central Geopolitical Zone.

Ibrahim Olaniyan explained that such payment would also helped to curb the problem of corruption and promote professionalism in service.

He, however, maintained that the PCRC was concerned about the welfare and wellbeing of the Nigerian police, and applauded the efforts of the IGP and DIG Zone 7 for their support to the committee, as well as for ensuring peace and tranquility in the North Central region.

He advocated for registration of more membership especially to include youths and women as their services was needed for the success of its objectives of ensuring community policing in Nigeria.

The National Chairman also praised the North Central Vice Chairman, Alhaji Tanko Dada Paiko for his effective leadership style while describing him as a good ambassador of the zone.

In their separate remarks, the DIG of Zone 7, Ogundele Ayodeji, and the Commissioner of Police for Niger State, Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman, assured of their continued collaboration with the PCRC nationwide and lauded them for their voluntary service to humanity in striving to provide a secure society.

The Guest Speaker, Mr. Emmanuel Musa of IBBU Lapai, challenged the police force to improve intelligent gathering, embrace PCRC, sustain sensitization for security and peace, advocate for the establishment of PCRC units to address their urgent complaints, and increase welfare packages for the force.

In his welcome address, the North Central Vice Chairman, Alhaji Usman Tanko Dada Paiko appreciated the partnership being enjoyed with the Nigerian police over the years and urged them to remain steadfast.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of plaques as awards to deserving individuals for their contributions and sacrifices to the police force in Niger State and Nigeria at large, by the PCRC.
