Zamfara Government Assents 3 Laws To Enhance Social Protection

Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara state has assented to the three laws recently passed by the State House of Assembly.

The Press Secretary to the Governor, Alhaji Jamilu Iliyasu made this known in a statement issued to newsmen in Gusau, the state capital.

The bills passed into law include, law to Provide for the Protection of Children in Zamfara State and for Other Matters Related thereto, Persons with Disabilities law and State Social Protection law.

Governor Matawalle said, the document will serve as guiding principles in coordinating all government’s social interventions, to ensure proper targeting and exit criteria of eligible beneficiaries that are expected to be mined from the state social register.

According to him, the laws will among other things complement the state government’s efforts in providing more access to children, women, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups in the state.

He commended the leadership and members of the State Assembly for their concern to the needs and aspirations of the citizens by passing the three bills into law.

The Governor added that, all the due processes observed are in conformity with its peculiarity to ensure that, all content of the laws do not contravene Islamic laws.

He further appreciated the contributions of Islamic scholars, partners and women groups who advocated through the first lady, Hajiya Aisha Matawalle for their contributions which according to him became part of what led to the speedy passage of the bills and their subsequent assent for implementation.
