In a bid to upgrade standard for effective health care service delivery in the country, the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, NMCN, in collaboration with USAID Health Workforce Management Activity, has revised the general Nursing and Midwifery curricula in line with best global practices .

At the curricula review lunch attended by 70 participants from the health sector, the Board Chairman of NMCN, Dr. Abosede Bola Ofi described the curricula review as the right step in the right direction.

Dr Ofi said the revision of the curricula would lead to the harmonization of materials and methods and serve as a reference point for teaching nurses and midwives across the nation.

said the benefits of the review would be seen in the improvement of their skills.

The Secretary General and Registrar Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Dr. Farouk Umar Abubakar called on all nurses and midwives as well as educators to embrace the new curriculum to improve the quality of healthcare delivery at all levels.

Representatives of USAID Office Nigeria, Mr. Emmanuel Ogwuche, reiterated the commitment of his office to ensure successful implementation of the new curriculum.

The country Director, USAID Health Workforce Management Activity, Dr. Andy Omoluabi, who spoke on the benefits and implication of reviewing curriculum within three to five years, said efforts should be made to adopt the curriculum in all nursing institutions.

Most of the stakeholders, Nurses and Midwife Educators that spoke with Radio Nigeria were convinced that the revised curricula would lead to grooming great professionals, and address some operational variance and challenges often experienced in the sector .
