NBTE Harps on Skills Acquisition for Sustainable Development

National Board for Technical Education NBTE says equipping youths with relevant skills is critical to the nation’s drive for sustainable development.

The General Manager, NBTE Centre for Excellence, Mr Ayo Aroge stated this at an event to commemorate this year’s World Youth Skills Day in Kaduna.

Mr Aroge explained that, the event was organised by the NBTE Centre of Excellence and its Research, Innovation and Development Unit in collaboration with the Entrepreneurship Development Centre of Kaduna Polytechnic with a view for the students of the college to showcase their skills.

Mr Aroge represented by the Desk Officer, NBTE Research, Innovation and Development Unit, Dr Zakari Abdullahi, described skills acquisation as the best way to address youth unemployment.

He also emphasized the importance of providing proper training to the youths and creating skills for decent work, employment, and entrepreneurship.

Mr Ayo Aroge maintained that, skills for decent work, employment, and entrepreneurship are very critical in addressing youth unemployment and ensuring sustainable development.

According to him, World Youth Skills Day was set aside by the United Nations to celebrate the strategic importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work, and entrepreneurship.

In a remark, the Rector of Kaduna Polytechnic, Dr Sulaiman Umar said that youths’ skill empowerment was core to the training being offered by Kaduna Polytechnic, to close the skills gap in the country.

Umar, who was represented by the Registrar, Mr Mohammed Sani, urged parents to consider empowering their children with profitable skills while providing them with the needed education.

He commended the NBTE for its untiring efforts to promote skills among the Nigerian youthful population, to drive the country’s sustainable development agenda.

Earlier, the Director, Entrepreneurship Development Centre, Kaduna Polytechnic, Mr Muneer Umar, also expressed gratitude to NBTE for the collaboration and given the youth the opportunity to showcase their skills.

Some Students of Kaduna Polytechnic showcased their skills on printing technology, mechatronics, civil engineering, food technology, chemical engineering, fashion, photography, computer science, mechanical engineering, building technology and hospitality electrical wiring among others.
