KDSG Launches 2020 General Household Survey Report

The Acting Governor of Kaduna State, Dr Hadiza Balarabe has launched the 2020 General Household Survey report which is the third conducted by the State Bureau of Statistics since 2015.

Dr Hadiza Balarabe who performed the official launching of the survey described it as a job well done.

She said the State General Household 2020 (KDGHS2020) was a jointly funded survey by Kaduna State Government with the support of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Dr Balarabe stressed that, Demographic and Health Data are important prerequisite for monitoring the progress of health, Social and Economic sector development indicator in the state.

She said the goal of the survey was to provide update on health and Demographic indicators with Special focus on reproductive, maternal, new born and child health nutrition, out of school children among others.

According to her, the report would helps government to investigate the range of health concerns that Influence women and Children lives, as well as improve the ability to collect critical data on the populations.

“We are indeed delighted that we have meet substantial progress and advances in the area of strengthening data coordination and utilisation which acknowledge both locality and Internationally inspite of destruction caused by COVID 19 pandemic”

The acting governor also disclosed that, findings from the survey caused serious concerned for the state, assuring that, relavent MDA’s would put in place innovative and strategic intervention that would support monitoring and other programmes of the state.

Earlier, the state Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Hajia Umma Aboki said, the goal of the survey wss to provide up-to-date data on health and demographic indicators, particularly maternal and child health, fertility, family planning, and nutrition, at the state, zonal and local government levels to meet the monitoring and evaluation needs of the SDGs and Kaduna State Development Plan.

She commended governor Nasiru ElRufai for his political will in ensuring global standard of producing official statistics institutionalized in the Bureau.

“I am delighted to announce to us that KDBS has successfully conducted the largest household survey ever organized by a subnational statistical agency in Nigeria”

“The survey utilized innovative methodologies and state of the art technology to generate estimates of indicators not only at state level but also at zonal and LGA levels. Findings from this survey confirm our resolve to deploy evidence-based decision making for the common good”.

She further said, that findings from the survey will be instrumental in monitoring and evaluating the SDG indicators and providing estimates for major indicators of the State Development Plan results framework and M&E framework in the state.

She revealed that, that this will be the third General Household Survey (GHS) the Bureau will be conducting since 2015, adding that the first was in 2015 and second in 2017.

“The current survey, KDGHS 2020 remarkably differs from the past two surveys in terms of design, scope, and content. The survey utilized state of the art technology in data collection and included a large module on maternal, new born and child health (MNCH)” she stressed.

“Based on the new design, this survey involved three times the sample size of the 2015 and 2017 surveys. In addition, the survey adopted new techniques in data management and data quality checks including extensive use of GIS technology.

“12,613 households, 14,206 women and 7,296 men aged 15-49 years were interviewed, while information was collected on 10,361 children below age 5 years. 7. The KDGHS2020 sample was selected using a stratified two-stage cluster design consisting of 690 clusters with a fixed take of 30 clusters per LGA”
