NGO Sensitizes Community Leaders on The Effects of Drug Abuse

A non governmental organization, Eye opener for Youths and Women Foundation says it will continue to engage community leaders on the need to sensitize their members on the negative effect of consumption of hard drugs.

The Coordinator of the foundation on Hausa Programmes, Malam Lawal Magaji stated this during a community sensitisation on prevention and intervention on drug abuse in Chikun local government area of Kaduna State.

He said the foundation engaged community leaders of Sabon Garin Nasarawa in the Commemoration of this year’s World drug Abuse with a view to understand the badly effect of hard drugs among the consumers.

“We want to sensitize the entire community leaders, because some of them are ignorant of drugs effect among the youths and the environmental aspect of lives”

He expressed worry of the increasing involvement of married women in consumption of drugs which he described it as unfortunate.

Malam Magaji emphasized the need for husbands to rise up in monitoring the behaviours of their wives, stressing that, the new addicts were always hidden their actions to their love ones for simple reason of not to discover their bad action of consumption.

He alleged that, some of the women mostly going Houses with the name of selling women goods are responsible of selling the drugs to the married women.

The coordinator emphasized the need for husbands to take measures of checkmating their children and wives

In a remark, the Sarkin Sabon Garin Nasarawa, known as Dirkaniya, Alhaji Khalid Idris, who commended the convener of the sensitisation, promised to expand the campaign to all nooks and crannies of his domain for adequate sensitisation as part of their contribution to commemorate this Year’s World Drugs Abuse Day.

Alhaji Idris who expressed displeasure on sudden released of drugs sellers arrested in communities, hence the need for stakeholders to redouble effort in the fight against the menace.

Other participants at the sensitisation exercise stressed the need for government to deal decisively with drugs dealers to end the menace.
