The Bridge Connect Africa Initiative has called on the general public to shun any form of stigmatization of women who are in their menstrual period.

Acting Executive Director of the group, Fatima Musa Aliyu disclosed this during a sensitization session organized for women living with disabilities, held at Murtala Mohammad Library Kano.

She said the workshop was aimed to mark the World Menstrual Hygiene Day and educate women on the hygienic way of treating the menstrual period geared towards having a healthy society.

The acting eecutive director explained that the organization was working together with the disable community to create awareness about menstrual hygiene.

Fatima Aliyu Musa noted that due to the inability of some women to afford menstrual hygiene materials, the NGO deemed it necessary to advocate for governments at all levels and wealthy individuals to expedite action in providing sanitary pads to the needy, geared toward curtailing the challenge of stigmatization of women during menstrual period.

She said one of the major ways of addressing the problem was to ensure government makes policies that will make menstrual materials affordable to all, irrespective of age or status.

The acting head maintained that the Non-Governmental Organisation would not relent in enlightening the public on the importance of ensuring good menstrual hygiene in all parts of the state.
