Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved over ₦14 billion for the construction of clinics at the airports in Abuja, Kano, Port Harcourt and Lagos.

Minister of Aviation, Alhaji Hadi Sirika who stated this to newsmen said the replacement of escalators at Wings D and E in Lagos old airports was a component of the contract sum.

Other components, according to him, are the development of cargo terminals at Katsina and Birnin Kebbi, procurement and installation, as well as maintenance of escalators and lifts in Lagos airport.

Alhaji Sirika said procurement and maintenance of 100 units of checking counters, weighing scales and spare-parts at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airports in Abuja were included in the contract.

The maintenance of new international terminal buildings in Abuja and Port Harcourt, which is to be completed in 3 years, was also a component of the contract, the minister said.

The FEC, he continued, had approved over ₦14 billion variation on the contract sum for the construction of new terminal buildings at the international airport in Enugu and the cargo airport in Asaba, raising the sum to over ₦44 billion, with 12 months additional completion period.

Also approved were the award of contract for the procurement of maintenance machines at about ₦

6.7 million, and the variation of contract for the procurement, configuration, delivery and commissioning of transportable radars for enhancement of the northeast surveillance safety of air navigation operations, and for the airport in Maiduguri to run 24 hours.
