The Nigeria Union of Teachers NUT Niger state wing says the strike embarked upon by it’s members was suspended following agreement reached between organised labour and state that salaries of teachers and other Civil Servants will henceforth be paid in full.

State Chairman of NUT Comradely Akayago Adamu Mohammed stated this while addressing Newsmen at Teachers House Minna on the positives and takeaways from just suspended sit at home protest.

Comrade Akayago Adamu Mohammed explained that the sit at home protest was a huge success since it was majorly on percentage salary payment and that Niger state government has agreed to pay salaries in full.

According to him it has also been agreed that payment of salaries must be considered as firstly line charge by each local government council in Niger state once statutory deductions are made.

Comrade Akayago Adamu Mohammed however said they will continue to appealed to Niger state government to address other lingering demand of teachers towards improving their living standard.

Some of the lingering demands include problem of promotion and annual increments Teachers Salary Structure and ZPAD issue though they have agreed with Niger state government on refund of money to teachers affected by this issue.

Comrade Akayago Adamu Mohammed commended the Chairman of NLC Comrade Yakubu Garba and members of NUT for the resilience of their collective commitment and doggedness that led to the success of their struggle.

NUT Principal Administrative Secretary Comrade Labaran Garba in his submission cautioned against the use of politics in resolving issues pertaining teachers welfare and development.

Comrade Labaran Garba added that they embarked on the strike as their last resort .
