The embattled Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has accepted the resignation of Augustine Eguavoen as Interim Head Coach of the Super Eagles.
Eguavoen we understand tendered his resignation as Interim Head Coach, following the failure of the Super Eagles of Nigeria to qualify for the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.
While Eguavoen offered to step down as Head Coach of the ill-fated team which was chasing Nigeria’s 7th appearance at the Mundial with immediate effect, he, however, restated his desire to continue working as Technical Director of the NFF, a position he occupied prior to his appointment as Interim Coach, following the sacking of Franco-German tactician, Gernot Rohr.
Meanwhile, the NFF has, in the meantime, withdrawn the two-and-a-half-year contract offered to the other coaches of the Super Eagles and terminated the appointment of the entire technical crew of the team with immediate effect.
According to a statement issued by the Scribe of the NFF, Dr Sanusi Mohammed, a new coaching crew will be announced after a proper review to rebuild the Eagles, and lead their charge for qualification for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted by Cote d’Ivoire, and other challenges.
“We thank the coaches and team officials for their service to the nation and wish them success in their future endeavours,” said NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi.
Nigeria crashed out of the World Cup in Qatar after a 1-1 draw in Abuja, having played a goalless draw with the Black Stars in Kumasi, four days earlier.
The results meant, Ghana qualified for their third World Cup finals appearance, on the away goal rule, at the expense of Nigeria.
The MKO Abiola Stadium, was vandalised following the loss of the Eagles.
