The Senate in a closed session are deliberating on how to respond to the letter by President Mohammadu Buhari on denial of assent to the Electoral Amendment act and resolved to consult with their colleagues in the House of Representatives and their constituents.

Soon after the Senate resumed plenary Wednesday, the President of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan called for an Executive session. 

President  Muhammadu Buhari had on Tuesday written the Senate and the House of Representatives, withholding assent to the 2021 Electoral Act Amendment bill that was passed by the National Assembly.

Mr Lawan explained that the issue would be addressed in January next year on resumption from their Christmas break.

Meanwhile, the lawmakers have commenced debate in the Third passage of the appropriation bill.
