The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Mohammad, says it will be difficult for the judiciary to be objective in a democracy where it remains financially tied to the executive.
Justice Muhammad stated this at the 2021 bi-annual all Nigeria judges conference of the superior courts in Abuja.
He said among judiciaries in the commonwealth, the Nigerian judiciary was the most over burdened, harassed and over stretched with political cases and disputation.
Justice Mohammad therefore stressed the need for financial autonomy to facilitate dispensation of justice without fear or favour.
On his part, President, Muhammadu Buhari, represented by the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, said Federal Government would continue to collaborate with the Judiciary to ensure its independence.
