The Jigawa State chapter of the Nigerian Association of Women Journalist NAWOJ, in collaboration with National information technology NITDA, has trained and distributed 50 computer laptops to women journalists within the Zone A in jigawa state.

Declaring the training open, the Director  General of National Information  Development Agency Mallam Kashifu Inuwa explained that the workshop was aimed at equipping them with more skills  on how to write effectively in this digital era as the world has become a global village.

Kashifu Inuwa who was represented by the head of ICT outreach unit of the agency, Bashir Ibrahim pointed out that the use of information communication technology,ICT in journalism helps in transforming the profession to be more efficient,effective and competitive with other prominent global media gladiators.

According to him, the decision to select Jigawa State was informed considering the serenity and passion it has for hosting  information and communication technology activities and programs aimed at empowering citizens with the right modern skills and knowledge befitting the global digital trends.

In her speech, the jigawa state chairperson, Hajiya Hauwa Ibrahim Ladan said the training with the theme digital journalism will be a transmission on women journalists from analogue to digital platforms method.

She added that, those on digital platforms will be giving more orientation on how to fully harness and tap from the vast knowledge by reporting credible information to the world. 

Hajiya Hauwa Ibrahim Ladan commended the minister of communications and digital economy, Professor Ali Pantami and DG NITDA Mallam Kashifu Inuwa whose vision is to develop human capital in northern Nigeria and the country in general.

Some of the participants who spoke to Radio Nigeria, the chairperson of NAWOJ kaduna state Hajiya Fatima Aliyu, the kano State Secretary of NAWOJ, Hajiya Wasila Ladan and Sarah Agbo former National financial secretary NAWOJ, commended the state chairperson for organizing the workshop which is first of its kind across the nation.

Fifty Laptops computers were distributed to the participants drawn from Kano,Jigawa,Kaduna,Sokoto,Kebbi Zamfara within the Zone A of the association.
