The sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar II has urged Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding to move the nation forward.
Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ada Abubakar made the call during the opening ceremony of the 38th national conference of the Nigerian Association of Teachers of Arabic and Islamic Studies (NATAIS) held at Musa Abdullahi Auditorium, Bayero University Kano.
According to him, the nation is facing various challenges including insecurity and the Covid-19 global pandemic which started as a mystery and became a reality.
The sultan of Sokoto who was represented by the Emir of Karaye Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar the second, explained that the federal and state government have done their best to curtail the spread of the deadly disease hence the urgent need for relevant stakeholders to contribute their quota to promote security and eradicate the infection.
In his remark, the Emir of Kano Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero described the conference as timely due to the current situation in the country and pointed out that teachers of Arabic and Islamic have a role to play to bring an end to the problems bedevilling the country.
Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero who was represented by Alhaji Aliyu Harazimi commended NATAIS for organizing the conference in Kano.
Earlier the national secretary of the association, Dr. Abba Kawu Hassan explained that the conference was targeted at fine tuning modalities in enhancing peace and stability in all parts of the country.
The conference themed :Pandemic and national security in Arabic and Islamic studies attracted prominent academics, top government officials, students and the general public.
