Troops of 25 Task Force Brigade, Operation Hadin Kai in the North East have quelled an attempted attack on Damboa town in the early hours of Sunday by insurgents and Islamic State of West Africa Province.

The Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu said in a statement that they were met with a heavy volume of fire from soldiers..

He said some of the insurgents sustained gunshot wounds, “forcing them to retreat in disarray” While the troops were currently on their trail.

Brig Gen Nwachukwu noted that two vehicles belonging to the Civilian Joint Task Force were burnt down during the clash.

Meanwhile, a Chief Bomb Expert of the Boko Haram group known as Musa Adamu a.K.a Mala Musa Abuja and his second in command Usman Adamu a.k.a Abu Darda along with their families and followers surrendered to the troops in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.

Also the acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division and Commander Sector 1 OPHK Brigadier General Abdulwahab Adelokun Eyitayo was at Headquarters 21 Special Armoured Brigade Bama on Saturday, to receive them.

He commended’ the surrender and admonished them to be advocate of peace and rehabilitation for other Boko Haram members.

335 fighters and their families; 746 adult women and children surrender, including one of the abducted Chibok girl.

It is believed that insurgents can no longer sustain ongoing military campaign on their enclaves and that they are experiencing famine, internal skirmishes and health challenges.
