Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala

The Director-General, World Trade Organization, WTO, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has called for more social, health and economic support in Nigeria.

She made the call via a virtual platform from Geneva at this year’s National Diaspora Day.

The Director-General said though Nigerians in the Diaspora have contributed immensely to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product through their remittances, more is still expected from them.

On the high rate of unemployment, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala disclosed that the WTO was negotiating an investment facilitation agreement to help countries including Nigeria create their own environment to attract investment.

She urged Nigeria and Africa not to continue to depend on other countries for the supply of COVID-19 vaccines.

Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala cautioned Nigerians in the Diaspora to be good ambassadors by doing the right thing wherever they find themselves.

The National Diaspora day is marked in Nigeria on the 25th of July every year.
