Federal Government has extended the administration of second dose of the COVID-19 vaccination to the 5th of July this year.

.

The Executive Director, National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, NPHCDA, Dr Fiasal Shuaib who stated this at the weekly briefing of the COVID-19 vaccination update in Abuja, said the administration of the 2nd dose was to close on the 25th of June, 2021

Dr Shuaib explained that the Federal Government was committed to ensuring every eligible person in the country was vaccinated against COVID-19.

According to him, 2,099,568 people have been vaccinated with their first doses while 1,005,234 have received the second doses of the Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

The Executive Director urged those who have received their first dose no later than May 13th to visit the nearest vaccination centre for the second dose as soon as possible, for full protection against COVID-19.

He decried the frustration experienced regarding vaccine supply as there had been great inequity in terms of distribution.

Also speaking, the WHO country Representatives, Dr Walter Mulombo called on Nigeria to update its sequencing process to dictate the variant in the country, as most African countries were experiencing the third wave.
