Thirteen people have drowned after a boat capsized in Ginga village of Shagari LGA of Sokoto state.

Chairman of the local council, Alh.Aliyu Dantagani confirmed the incident in a telephone interview with Radio Nigeria in the state.

The boat capsized while trying to cross over to a near by village from the Ginga local community .

Following the incident, Governor Aminu waziri Tambuwal directed the state emergency management agency to provide motor boats and life jackets to people of the area to prevent future occurrence.

The Governor condoled the people of the area and advised them to always take precautionary measures while trying to cross the river especially during the rainy season.
