The Pharmacist Council of Nigeria says the open drug Markets have contributed to the adverse security challenges in the country.

The registrar of the Council in the Country, pharmacist Elijah Mohammed who was represented by the director of Enforcement, pharmacist Stephen Esumobi, stated this while briefing newsmen in Sokoto.

Pharmacist Elijah said the open drug markets are the sources of supply of substances of abuse to people with criminal tendencies in isolated areas across the country.

The registrar said the Pharmacist Council of Nigeria who have the mandate of regulating, controlling, training and practice of pharmacy have step up enforcement activities across the country in a bid to controlling the negative effects of open drug market in the country.

The registrar cautioned that the open drug markets constitute a threat to public health and National security of the country.

He explained that the exercise is covering all the twenty three local government Areas of the state

The registrar said already two hundred and sixty two patent medicine shops were sealed in Sokoto state for various offences.

He added that the aim of the exercise was to ensure all premises where medicine are sold are registered for beffective service delivery.
