United Nations Children’s Fund UNICEF has described the implementation of food and nutrition programme in Jigawa State as one of the best in Nigeria.

The Director, Jigawa State Primary Healthcare Agency, Dr Shehu Sambo stated this at the first quarterly meeting of the state technical committee held at the conference hall of the Agency’s new secretariat in Dutse.

Dr Sambo explained that with adequate budgetary allocation to the programme and the zeal of the committee members, Jigawa State would be on the lead in the programme by the end of the year.

Earlier, the Executive Secretary of the Agency, Dr Kabir Ibrahim described malnutrition as a great threat to children’s health.

He urged the committee to work hard to achieve maximum positive result on nutition by the end of this year.

In a presentation, the Coordinator of Masaki programme and Deputy Director Primary Healthcare, Dr Magaji Uba said the programme had 150 designated centers in the state with a desk officer in each of the 30 state house of assembly constituencies.
