From Dauda Illiya (Borno)

The remains of the late Shehu of Dikwa, Mohammed Ibn Masta II Elkanemi has been laid to rest at royal graveyard within the premises of Shehu of Borno’s palace.

Earlier, the funeral prayer was led by the Imam Idaini of Borno, Imam Shettima Mamman Saleh at the Shehu of Borno’s Palace in Maiduguri.

Some of the dignitries that attended the prayer include Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, former Governor Ali Sheriff, members of National and state Assembly, Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Garbai El-Kanemi, other traditional rulers, and other top Government officials.

Speaking to newsmen after the funeral prayer, Governor Zulum described the death as shocking and great loss.

“It was so shocking, because he was a unifying factor in Dikwa Emirate Council. His absence will seriously create a vacuum. There will be no way we will continue our scheduled activities in southern Borno while we losse a king. We came back home immediately in order to witness the funeral prayer.”

Also, the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Garbai El-Kanemi said the late monarch was one of the respected rulers in the state, describing his death as a great loss to the entire people of Borno.

Shehu Mohammad Ibn Masta II died in Abuja on Saturday after a protracted illness at the age of 75 and was the second in ranking of council of traditional rulers in the state.
