The Deputy Governor of Kwara State, Mr. Kayode Alabi, has called for improved efforts to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS and Covid-19 pandemics in the State.

Speaking at a press conference to mark the 2020 World AIDS day in Ilorin, Mr Alabi said the gains of the past in the fight against HIV/AIDS had suffered setback with advent of Covid-19 pandemic earlier in the year.

According to him, the state government must not relent in the fight against the two pandemics, adding that they are capable of ending mankind if left unchecked.

He explained that the perceived fear of contracting Covid-19 further reduced people’s willingness to access care at health facilities across the State.

Mr Alabi noted that the present administration in the state has paid a counterpart fund of N30million in 2019 out of N60million owed the disease control agency.
