Zamfara State House of Assembly says it will promulgate a law to safeguard people with disabilities from social stigmatisations as well as promote access opportunities in all aspect of living.

This followed a house consideration on a private member bill sponsored by Hon Salihu Usman Zurmi, a Disable member representing Zurmi East and seconded by Nasiru Atiku Gora, representing Maradun II in the chamber.

During deliberations Alh Nasiru Bello Lawal Bungudu, Muhammad G. Ahmad Jangeru citing the caption of the bill as not explanatory, while Alh Shamsudeen Hassan Basko Talata Mafara, Anas sarkin Fada and Nura Dahiru Sabon Birnin strongly objected the observations raised by their colleagues.

The members called for a speedy passage of the bill while Deputy speaker Musa Bawa Musa Yankuzo called for a holistic approach on the bill.

After much debate by members on the issue, the speaker Alh Nasiru Mu’azu Magarya refered the matter to voice vote in which majority agreed that the bill be passed to second reading and send it to house committee on women affairs and social development for scrutiny.
