President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed delight that the Mali situation has calmed down considerably.

The President stated this in Abuja after the Special Envoy to Mali, former President Goodluck Jonathan, briefed him on the situation in Mali.

After the intervention by the military in Mali, ECOWAS had insisted on a transition government led by a civilian, and return to Constitutional order within 12-18 months.

Giving updates, Dr Jonathan said the mission given him by ECOWAS leaders was almost fully done, as a government with a largely civilian face has been inaugurated.

He said the President, the Prime Minister, and Ministers had been sworn in, adding that the military had only four portfolios for serving officers, and that the government has taken off.

Dr. Jonathan explained that members of the Council, which will work like parliamentarians, would be inaugurated soon.

He added that the Chairman of ECOWAS, President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana, would formally brief West African leaders soon.
