Speaker of house of Representative’s Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, says the Constitutional review embarked by the National Assembly will focus on electoral reforms, human rights abuses and security challenges.

Speaking at the inauguration of the special Committee on the review of the Constitution, Mr Gbajabiamila stressed that the committee would interface with different groups to gather information to assist in effective discharge of its mandate.

He observed that overcoming the country’s security challenges require the willingness of the people to accept new approaches and ideas.

In a remark, Chairman of the committee and the Deputy Speaker of the house alh Abdullahi Wase, said some of the areas that require review in the Constitution includes local government autonomy, community policing and states creation.

The vice president Professor Yemi Osibanjo, represented by the secretary to the government of the federation, Mr Boss Mustafa, confirmed government’s commitment in supporting moves aim at reforming electoral process.

He maintained that part of it was the emergence of Independent candidate were Nigerians with political interest can contest for any position with out facing intimidation from political parties.

Also speaking the Chairman Independent national electoral commission, Professor Mahmud Yakubu, urged the committee to include effective penalties for electoral offenders in the review.
