United Nations Population Fund -UNFPA has advocated for active youths participation on sustainable developments goals agendas.
Programme Coordinator, Northern Nigeria, Ms. Mariama Darboe stated this at the First Universities Sustainable Goals Summit organised by Partnership for Advocacy in Child and Family Health in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Ms. Mariama Darboe said with youths accounting for over half of Nigeria’s population, utilizing their potentials would ensure the achievement of sustainable development goals in the country.
In a contribution, one of the resource person at the summit, Dr. Sa’id Tafida noted that youth awareness on reproductive health rights would facilitate the achievement of sustainable development goal number three as it focuses on good health and well-being of citizens.
Similarly, another resource person and panelist from the University of Ibadan, Mr. Turnwait Michael identified ignorance, poor health delivery and other socio cultural practices as factors responsible for poor decisions by young people on reproductive health.
Participants at the Summit including students from Universities, secondary schools and civil society organizations stressed the need for youths to be proactive in seeking solutions to societal challenges. COV/GODWIN
