Former Governor of Kano State, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau on Monday announced his defection from the Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Declaring at his residence in Kano, he also announced withdrawal from Kano Central Senatorial District under the NNPP.

Mallam Shekarau was received again into the party by the Presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, the party Board of Trustees Chairman, Walid Jibrin, the party’s national chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu and other party stalwart

He noted that he had written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to announce his withdrawal from the senatorial race for Kano central under the NNPP.

The PDP national Chairman, Senator Iyorcha Ayu, commended Shekarau for sacrificing his senatorial ticket of the NNPP to join the PDP.

His defection is coming barely three months after he decamped to NNPP from the All Progressive Congress (APC)

Shekarau had, in 2019, dumped the PDP for the All Progressives Congress.
