Jigawa State Children’s Parliament has advocated for the release of resources for the implementation of child protection law in the state.

Speaker of the Parliament, Zulaiha Muhammad appealed when she led other parliamentarians on a courtesy call to Governor Badaru Abubakar in Dutse.

The Parliamentarians visited along with a delegation from the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development and the Jigawa State Social Protection Platform.

The Speaker who was represented by the Leader of the parliament, Almustapha Musa, said the children’s parliament is an organisation for guiding children to be informed about leadership since from an early age.

“We want to request your administrator to put all mechanisms that will enable the law to be implemented to salvage the teeming children in Jigawa state”

Other members who spoke during the visit called on the state government to provide further opportunities for the parliamentarians to contribute to societal development.

In a contribution, the Clerk of the parliament, Jabir Haruna, called on Governor Badaru Abubakar to come up with policies and programs to check out-of-school issues in the state.

“We want you to do something to address the issue of out-of-school children. Every child is supposed to be in school because we are tomorrow’s leaders,”

Responding, Governor Badaru Abubakar represented by Head of the Civil Service, Alhaji Hussaini Ali Kila expressed the commitment of the administration toward championing the cause of children.

According to him, it is a welcome development that the Children’s Parliament exists as a platform for children to express themselves and participate in decision making while assuring that the child law will soon be implemented.

On the issue of out-of-school children, Badaru said his administration was still doing its best to ensure that children in the state go to school, and had come up with various policies and programs for addressing the out-of-school children issue.

He added that, while the Federal government feeds pupils in her school feeding program from primary one to three, the government of Jigawa complemented that by feeding pupils from primary four to primary six.

The Governor, therefore assured that the state would continue to come up with policies and programs aimed at enhancing the well-being of children in the state.
