House of Representatives has urged the Rural Electrification Agency to intervene in the installation of Mini-Grid Power System in the Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
This was sequel to a motion by a member from Kauru Local Government in the house of Representatives Alh Mukhtar Zakari Chawai, adopted by the house.
Presenting the motion, Mukhtar Zakari, confirmed that communities in the area have been in a dark for over ten years, while assuring that, providing electricity would boost employment opportunities, Agriculture, investments, and engage the youths.
He said efforts of the Federal Government to reduce poverty by improving power infrastructure nationwide cannot be over-emphasized as over half of the country’s population lacks access to stable power.
The lawmaker advised the establishment of off-grid Power substations to serve as a cost-saving short-term solution in the provision of immediate energy needs of Nigerians.
He also urged the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to complete the connection of transmission lines
in the zone to the National Grid to minimize unemployment leading to crime and insecurity.
Adopting the motion, the house has mandated its Committee on Power to ensure compliance with the house resolutions.
