Grassroot: Kano Budgets N800m To Address Poverty, Unemployment

Kano state Government is to prioritize training of women and youths in 2022 under its empowerment Programmes especially at the grassroot level.

The State Commissioner for women Affairs and Social Development Dr. Zahra’u Muhammad Umar disclosed this while defending the ministry’s 2022 budget at the State house of Assembly.

Dr Zahra’u Muhammad, explained that about eight hundred million naira tagged budget for the grassroot was designed to address poverty and unemployment as the major factors affecting the well bieng of the grassroot.

The Commissioner also revealed that the State government had mapped out strategies aimed at reviving local production of house hold items, locally produced groundnut oil and biscuits by women in the rural areas to enhance self reliant.

She said the Kiru reformatory institute is currently undergoing rehabilitation and expansion to accommodate a large number of male and female drug addicts to make them useful members of the society.

Also in his presentation, the chairman of Kano pillars football club, Surajo Shu’aibu Yahaya said the the State Government has proposed the sum of 300 million for training and procurement of sports wears for men and women in the 2022 budget estimate

The Chairman who lamented inadequate and lack of prompt release of funds to the agency in its annual budgetory allocation, urged the state government to expedite action towards reversing the trend as the club can only progress with adequate and timely provision of funds.

Similarly, the Managing Director Kano State Water Board Alhaji Garba Ahmed Kofar Wambai, said the Board will undergo rehabilitation of damaged Pipes and relevant structures in its facilities across the state for enhanced supply of safe and portable drinking water the people.

He reiterated the agency’s commitment in providing portable drinking water to the teeming populace.

Alhaji Garba Kofar Wambai, however confirmed the agency’s commitment to ensure that the present administration in Kano State has address the challenges of inadequate water supply in towns and villages.

Other agencies that have so far defended their budgets include, Kano State investment promotion council, the State Urban Planning Development Agency (KNUPDA), the State Water Resources Engineering and Construction Agency (WRECA) among others.
