Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency, KSCHMA, has directed the immediate enrolment of pregnant women across 63 healthcare facilities in the state.
The directive covers 36 secondary and 27 primary healthcare facilities and is aimed at improving maternal and newborn health outcomes as part of efforts to reduce preventable maternal deaths.
Executive Secretary of KSCHMA, Dr. Rahila Muktar, said the initiative was in line with the Kano First Healthcare Agenda and designed to remove financial barriers preventing pregnant women from accessing essential healthcare services.
She said the intervention would expand access to antenatal care, skilled delivery, emergency obstetric services and postnatal care.
Dr. Rahila explained that every pregnant woman deserves timely access to quality healthcare regardless of her financial circumstances.
She charged healthcare providers participating in the scheme to maintain high professional standards and provide respectful, compassionate and patient-centred care.
According to her, quality service delivery remains critical to improving maternal and newborn health outcomes across the state.
The Executive Secretary said KSCHMA would continue to strengthen collaboration with healthcare providers and other stakeholders to expand health insurance coverage, improve service utilisation and advance Universal Health Coverage in Kano.
She added that the intervention demonstrates the commitment of the Kano State Government to strengthening the Contributory Healthcare Scheme and ensuring that financial constraints do not prevent pregnant women from accessing essential healthcare services.
The initiative is expected to contribute to improved maternal health, increased newborn survival and the broader objectives of the Kano First Healthcare Agenda.
