Kano State Reaffirms Commitment To End Street Begging

Kano state Government has reassured determination to eradicate street begging and other social vices in the state.

Commissioner for women affairs and social development, Dr Zahra’u Muhammad Umar stated this while parading about 500 beggers evacuated by the ministry.

She said the state government had embarked on rigorous surveillance in all parts of the metropolis,aimed at curtailing the menace of street begging

Dr Zahra’u Muhammad noted that a 72 year old woman with large quantity of cigarette was among those apprehended

She said women begging with young children constituted about 70 % of those arrested including a 7 year old boy found roaming the streets.

The commissioner noted that every one arrested would be handed over to their ward heads after proper documentation

She said the state government had set aside funds to empower women and widows who were into begging due to hardship

Dr Zahra’u Mohammad added that the ministry would not relent in it’s efforts of eradicating begging and all social vices to achieve desired objectives.
