Barely a week to the kickoff of campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Katsina State has suffered another round of defections, this time from two of its gubernatorial aspirants who lost out in the exercise held in June.

Alhaji Lawal Daura, a former Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), and Alhaji Mustafa Inuwa, a former Secretary to the Katsina State Government, had been outspoken about their dissatisfaction with the way the party conducted its primaries.

Now Daura has defected to the Allied People’s Movement (APM) while Inuwa has moved to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

While Daura has been tipped to serve as the running mate for the APM Presidential candidate, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Inuwa has returned to the APC which he quit in 2022 after losing its governorship primaries ahead of the last-held general elections

Speaking at an APM rally held in Katsina, Lawal Daura flatly denied speculations that he dumped the ADC after failing to secure the party’s gubernatorial ticket, maintaining that his principles and personal ambition to serve the people align more with the values of APM.

“I did not join politics to achieve any personal ambition, my objective has always been to serve the people and that can best be achieved through APM which manifesto centers around delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.”

Daura who described APM as the winning party come 2027, urged its supporters to remain united and committed to working for the victory of its candidates vying for various elective positions in the general elections.

Meanwhile, Alh. Mustafa Inuwa who addressed his supporters in Katsina urged them to also join the APC which he described as having better plans for the country and more chances of winning next year’s general elections.

“I am one of the founding members of APC in Katsina State, I was its pioneer Chairman. Therefore, APC is familiar territory for me and I prefer to pitch my tent with a party where I am still regarded as a leader, a party that has better chances at the polls”, he said.

Inuwa however acknowledged the insecurity, biting hunger and widespread poverty among citizens, urging the state and federal governments to take urgent steps to address these challenges in the coming months prior to the general elections.
