Senator Yakubu Lado has been declared winner of the Katsina State gubernatorial primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after polling 77,013 votes cast by delegates from the 361 wards in the state.

Declaring the result, the returning officer, Muhammad Kankara, explained that only 72 votes were invalid out of the 77,085 cast, as all valid votes cast were in favour of Senator Lado who contested unopposed.

In his victory speech, Senator Lado thanked the party stakeholders, members and delegates that participated in the exercise which he described as a reflection of the commitment of PDP to internal democracy and the rule of law.

He called on party members to campaign vigorously for the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections to restore its glory as the ruling party at federal and state levels, describing the period from 1999 to 2015 as the golden age of democracy in Nigeria.

Senator Lado also called on Nigerians to support PDP candidates vying for various elective positions in the 36 states and the FCT, to avail the party a chance to continue to deliver the dividends of democracy to citizens.

In their separate remarks, the party’s senatorial candidates, Alhaji Aliyu Umar, Nura Khalil, and Hamisu Gambo Dan-Lawan, described the emergence of Senator Lado as well deserved, urging party members to remain united ahead of next year’s general elections.
