Taraba NUT Chairman, Comrade Nathan Solomon

Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Taraba State wing, has faulted the decision of the Federal Ministry of Education regarding the waiver of JAMB requirements for admission into Colleges of Education.

The State Chairman of the Union, Nathan Solomon, made the position of the union known while speaking with journalists in Jalingo.

According to him, the decision was reached during the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the NUT held in Abuja, where the union strongly condemned the policy.

Solomon said the union was not consulted before the decision was taken, stressing that the policy should be rescinded immediately.

He noted that many countries across the world give priority attention and incentives to teachers, adding that the development could further weaken the teaching profession in Nigeria.

The NUT chairman warned that the decision would negatively affect the standard and dignity of the teaching profession.

He therefore called on critical stakeholders in the education sector to reconsider the policy in the interest of national development.

Solomon also urged the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to do the needful in order to salvage the education sector.
