In a landmark move to enhance transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance, the Kano State Government officially inaugurated the Open Government Partnership (OGP) Steering Committee at the Ministry for Public Procurement, Project Monitoring and Evaluation (MPPPME).

 

The event brought together representatives from government institutions, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and media stakeholders, reflecting the multi-sectoral nature of the initiative.

 

During the ceremony, the Permanent Secretary of MPPPME, Engineer Garba Adamu, praised Governor Yusuf for his unwavering support in establishing the committee.

 

He highlighted the importance of the OGP platform as a bridge between government and civil society reformers, fostering collaboration to promote integrity, transparency, and accountability in governance.

 

The Commissioner who doubles as the Government Co-Chair OGP, Nura Ma’aji outlined the initiative as a global, multi-stakeholder platform designed to advance transparency, citizen participation, and inclusion in governance processes.

 

He emphasized that the Steering Committee, with equal representation from government and civil society eight members each to ensures inclusivity and shared ownership of reforms.

 

The Commissioner noted that Kano State already has a State Action Plan for 2024–2026 and stressed the urgency of reconvening stakeholders to review progress, strengthen implementation strategies, and scale up ongoing efforts.

 

In a goodwill message, Civil Society Co-Chair of OGP, Abdulrazak Alkali commended the state government for its commitment to advancing the OGP agenda.

 

He recognized efforts to implement the State Action Plan across key areas such as anti-corruption, access to information, justice, climate change, and service delivery.

 

The newly inaugurated State Steering Committee features high-level government officials.
