The Zamfara State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed concern over alleged continued removal and destruction of billboards bearing the image of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the state.
In a statement issued by the APC Publicity Secretary in Zamfara, Yusuf Idris Gusau, the party said the alleged actions have been ongoing for some time, beginning with a clampdown on APC billboards statewide.
According to the statement, the party had earlier petitioned security agencies in an effort to halt what it termed politically motivated actions by the PDP-led state government through peaceful means.
The APC, however, also alleged that the state government has resumed the actions, accusing it of using official agencies, including the Zamfara Urban and Regional Planning Agency (ZUREP), to carry out provocative acts capable of triggering political tension ahead of the party’s congresses and the 2027 general elections.
The statement further alleged that, on Wednesday, officials of the agency attempted to remove a billboard displaying the President alongside the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, and Distinguished Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, both former governors of Zamfara State and leaders of the APC.
The billboard, which is located in front of the minister’s personal residence in Gusau, was reportedly saved from destruction following the swift intervention of security personnel attached to the residence.
The party once again called on security agencies in the state to intervene and prevent further acts of vandalism, which it said amount to disrespect for the office of the President and the nation’s democratic institutions.
The APC warned that failure to accord due recognition and respect to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as the leader of the nation and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, would not be tolerated by the party.
