The Senator representing Plateau Central, Diket Plang, has reiterated his commitment to supporting young people in the pursuit of quality education.
Senator Plang gave the assurance while addressing three of the five students he sponsored to study at Sanskaram University in India.
He explained that the initiative is aimed at empowering young minds with modern knowledge and skills that align with global educational standards.
According to him, emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence have become central to everyday life, making it necessary to support students, particularly those from less-privileged backgrounds, to access such specialised courses.
The senator said the visit was to formally bid the students farewell and to advise them, alongside their parents, on the importance of discipline, focus and commitment while studying abroad.
He urged the students to be good ambassadors of Plateau State and Nigeria, and to strictly adhere to Indian laws and regulations to maximise the opportunity.
Senator Plang expressed confidence that the students would complete their studies successfully and return to Nigeria to contribute meaningfully to national development.
“You are our children; you are Nigerians and proud Plateau people from Kanam, Pankshin, Mangu and Bokkos. You should fear God and remain obedient, knowing that God holds tomorrow. Be law-abiding Nigerians and strictly obey the rules and regulations of India. We pray that God blesses you with excellent results and brings you back safely to serve humanity.”
The parents expressed deep appreciation for the gesture extended to their children and pledged their continued support for the senator in delivering his mandate to the electorate.
They described the sponsorship as unprecedented in Plateau State, noting that it was the first time a serving senator had sponsored students from low-income backgrounds for such a significant educational opportunity.
The students, in their remarks, appreciated the opportunity and promised to study diligently to ensure that, upon completion of their programmes, they would positively impact the lives of the people of Plateau Central and Nigerians at large.
The beneficiaries include Hayacinth John, who will study Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning; Maryam Haliru Muhammad, Radiography and Imaging Technology; and Monday Pamela Dabit, Cardiovascular Technology, while processing continues for the remaining two candidates.
