As part of activities marking the 70th Anniversary of Women in Policing in Nigeria, the Taraba State Commissioner of Police, CP Betty Otimenyin on Tuesday embarked on the outreach programme to selected Secondary schools within the state capital.

The selected schools visited include the Government Science Secondary School, Jalingo, and the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC), Jalingo.

Addressing the gathering at the Government Science Secondary School Jalingo, which is a combination of boys and girls, CP Betty Otimenyin advised students to focus on their studies and cushioned them against drug abuse and other social vices.

As the school has been battling with miscreants, who are outsiders and engage in phone snatching, the CP assured them of the Command’s commitment to make the environment conducive for learning, by providing adequate security personnel for their safety.


CP Betty Otimenyin, who directed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), in charge of GRA, CSP Chijioke Osuagun, whose area of operations includes the school, to ensure that the school is well protected.

The Commissioner of Police, who also introduced O.C. of the Anti-Kidnapping unit, further directed the DPO to provide his phone number to the students to enable them to report suspicious actions or movement of any criminals.


Commenting on the directive, the DPO of GRA Division, CSP Chijioke Osuagun, announced his phone number to students and reaffirmed the division’s resolve to ensure daily surveillance in the school as directed by the CP.

Earlier in a remark, the Taraba State Commissioner for Secondary and Basic Education, Dr Augustina Godwin, appreciated the CP and her team for assuring adequate security in the school and advised the students to be security conscious.

She reaffirmed Governor Agbu Kefas’ administration commitment to providing quality free education in the state, revealing that very soon, the school will get its free uniforms and other learning materials as promised.

Recalling the meeting held on the 25th of September, 2025, with all principals, where he promised to renovate all public schools across the state, Hon. Dr Augustina Godwin announced that work will soon commence.

On his part, the Principal of the Government Science Secondary School, Jalingo, Ibrahim Moddibo, appreciated the CP for choosing the school as one of the beneficiaries of the programme, as well as commended Dr Agbu Kefas for prioritising education.

However, the CP and her entourage, including the State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Dr Augustina Godwin proceeded to the FGGC, Jalingo, where they were received by the Principal of the College, Mrs Justina Isaac Kure, and other Management Staff.

In an address at the Dining Hall, CP Betty Otimenyin noted that marking seven decades of courage, resilience, and dedicated service since the first set of policewomen were enlisted in 1955, was not an easy journey.

She, however, encouraged the younger generation to join the Force, as according to her, it doesn’t kill dreams. Rather, it brightens the future.

“Whatever profession you are aspiring to be, you can achieve your dream in the Nigeria Police Force. We have medical doctors, engineers, Lawyers, Journalists, among others. All you need is to write your SSCE and get the requirements result. You will be admitted into the Police Academy, as all these young gallant men and women officers I came with are graduates. For instance, the lady you are seeing is a lawyer. Therefore, I encourage you to read hard, be resilient, committed, and courageous to achieve your dreams.” The CP advised.

Additionally, the CP commended the leadership style of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD., NPM, reiterating the Command’s commitment to ensuring peace across Taraba State.

In a remark, the Principal of FGGC, Jalingo, Mrs Justina Isaac Kure expressed delight and appreciated the CP for selecting the College for the sensitisation, as she was excited for haven a female CP in Taraba State, which said is the highest rank for a police office in a state.

Mrs Kure also appreciated Governor Agbu Kefas for his unwavering support to the college through the office of the Commissioner of Education, Hon. Dr Augustina Godwin.

Meanwhile, the Head Boy and Head Girl of the two schools, who spoke on behalf of their fellows during the interaction with the CP, all expressed their gratitude to the two Commissioners, as well as their Principal for being caring mothers.

The celebration with the theme: 70 Years Of Courage And Service, ” Honouring Women In Policing, Inspiring The Future.” is scheduled to be held from 29th November to 5th December 2025, for Zone 3, Adamawa, and Taraba State Commands.
