The Nigerian Army has changed the leadership at the 1 Brigade, Gusau, Zamfara State, with Brigadier General Jimoh Mustapha officially taking over as the new Commander of the Brigade Nigerian Army, Gusau.
He succeeds Brigadier General Timothy M. Opurum, who has been redeployed to Headquarters 1 Division Nigerian Army, Kaduna, where he will serve as Chief of Staff.
General Opurum assumed command of the 1 Brigade on August 26, 2024, and during his tenure, spearheaded several successful operations against banditry and other security threats in Zamfara and neighboring states.
While delivering final address to the troops of the 1 Brigade, General Opurum charged to continue the dedication in defending motherland and fighting the insecurity bedevilling the country, saying “extend the same loyalty you accorded me to my successor.” Gen Opurum charges troops.
Brigadier General Jimo Mustapha, until his recent appointment, was the Chief of Staff at the Theatre Command, Operation Fansan Yamma.
His vast operational experience is expected to further strengthen ongoing military efforts in the fight against insecurity in the Northwest.
The colourful change of command ceremony featured several highlights, including formal addresses to senior officers, troops, and members of the Brigade’s barracks community.
General Opurum delivered farewell speeches to officers, soldiers, and the women of the barracks, expressing appreciation for their support during his tenure.

The ceremony ended with a symbolic handover of the Brigade flag, signifying the seamless transition of command to Brigadier General Jimoh Mustapha, who pledged to build on the successes recorded by his predecessor while intensifying the fight against criminality in Zamfara and beyond.
Other activities marking the event included a farewell quarter guard mounted in his honor, as well as a send forth dinner where souvenirs were presented and goodwill messages shared by colleagues and associates, praising his leadership and achievements.
