The Nigerian Union of Retired Police Officers under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) has rejected further meeting with the Director-General of the National Pension Commission (PENCOM), Ms. Omolola Bridget Oloworaran but still reaffirmed its demand for the total exit of the Nigeria Police Force from the CPS and the immediate creation of the Nigeria Police Pension Board.
The resolution was contained in a statement signed by the Chairman of the Kaduna State Chapter, CSP Mannir M. Lawal Rtd.on behalf of 35 other state chapters and made available to journalists in Kaduna.
CSP Lawal stated that members have unanimously agreed to boycott further engagements with the DG of PENCOM Ms. Omolola Bridget Oloworaran and advised her to instead focus on implementing the union’s clear position—communicated during the meeting of 7th August 2025—to fast-track their transition from the CPS to the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS), as well as establish the Nigeria Police Pension Board without delay.
It will be recalled that on 21st July 2025, the Nigerian Union of Retired Police Officers, alongside its 35 state chapters and the FCT, staged the “Mother of All Peaceful Protests” in Abuja. The protest demanded the immediate removal of the Nigeria Police Force from the CPS to the DBS and the creation of the Nigeria Police Pension Board.
During the protest, prominent activists including Omoyele Sowore, Dan Bello, Flag Boy, and other supporters joined in solidarity as retirees marched to the National Assembly and the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters.
Following the demonstration, the DG of PENCOM invited selected union executives to a meeting on 7th August 2025, where she urged retirees to remain under the CPS, citing alleged past fraud and setbacks in the DBS.
However, the retirees maintained that the DBS was not inherently flawed, but that corruption by its past administrators was the root problem.
Although the DG promised to convene another meeting within two weeks, the union leadership after wide consultations resolved not to participate in any further discussions until their demands are met.
An official letter conveying this decision has been dispatched to the DG of PENCOM, with copies sent to the Inspector-General of Police, the President of the Senate, the Director of the DSS at the National Assembly, and the Chief of Staff to the President.
