The Kwara State Police Command says it has reinforced security in Babanla community following an attack by suspected armed assailants that left five people dead, including a police officer, Adejumo Wasiu.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejinre-Adeyemi, said the assailants, numbering in their hundreds and riding motorcycles, invaded Babanla in Ifelodun Local Government Area, attacking the Divisional Police Headquarters and raiding the market.
The suspects reportedly fired sporadically during the assault, causing multiple casualties.

The statement noted that a swift and coordinated response by police operatives, Nigerian Army personnel, vigilantes, and local hunters repelled the attackers, restored order, and launched a full-scale manhunt for the perpetrators.
It added that the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, Adekimi Ojo, accompanied by the State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), visited Babanla for an on-the-spot security assessment.

According to the statement, a high-level strategy has been adopted to consolidate peace and strengthen inter-agency and community-security collaboration in the affected area.
The joint security delegation also toured key locations — including the market, the Divisional Police Headquarters, and surrounding areas — to ensure stability had been fully restored.
