A bill seeking to amend the law on pensions and other benefits for former public officers has passed second reading on the floor of the Jigawa State House of Assembly.

The bill was sponsored by the member representing Malam Madori Constituency, Alhaji Hamza Adamu Ibrahim, who also chairs the House Committee on Appropriation.

The motion to present the bill was seconded by the member representing Guri constituency, Alhaji Usman Abdullahi Tura Musari.

Alhaji Hamza Adamu Ibrahim explained that the former public officers to benefit from such pension include Governors, Deputy Governors, Speakers and Deputy Speakers as well as assistants to Governors.

He said a former Governor, Deputy and speaker and deputy speaker should also continue to benefit from vehicles, medical care as well as security men attached to them for life.

Alhaji Hamza Adamu Ibrahim noted that many states have adopted this law based on their environment and economic situation and Jigawa currently design the law to suit its status.

After the Clerk of the House Barrister Musa Aliyu Abubakar read the bill for the second time, the Speaker of the House, Alhaji Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin constituted a 7 man special committee to study how former public officers such as former Governors, Deputy Governor’s, Speakers and others enjoy these benefits in other states of the federation.

The 7- Man Committee members include Majority Leader who is the member representing Roni Constituency Alhaji Lawan Muhammad Dansure as Chairman while member representing Malam Madori Alhaji Hamza Adamu Ibrahim, Guri Constituency Alhaji Usman Abdullahi Tura Musari, Fagam Constituency Alhaji Yahaya Zakari Kwarko,Taura Constituency Alhaji Dayyabu Shehu, Kaugama Constituency Alhaji Sani Sale Zaburan and that of Bulangu Constituency Alhaji Yusuf Ahmad Soja will serve as members of the committee.

The bill was referred to the committee and was given four weeks time to report back to house.
