The Member representing Bungudu/Maru Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Dr Abdulmalik Zubairu Zannan Bungudu, has launched a N64 million empowerment initiative aimed at tackling youth unemployment and improving access to healthcare in the constituency.

The initiative was implemented in partnership with the Strategic Committee for Community Development and Empowerment, is targeted at unemployed graduates of health-related disciplines across Bungudu and Maru Local Government Areas.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Bungudu, Dr Abdulmalik Bungudu represented by a former Zamfara State Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Umar Jibo Bukuyyum urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the opportunity and serve their communities with honour.

He explained that many of the beneficiaries had remained unemployed since graduation, prompting the intervention to help them become self-reliant and productive members of society.

“Respect this opportunity and justify it so others can benefit in the future,” he advised.

While giving a breakdown of the initiative, the lawmaker’s media aide, Aminu Lawal Bungudu, disclosed that, 31 medicine outlets had been established, 21 for human healthcare and 10 for veterinary services across the two local government areas.

He added that each outlet was assigned to two trained graduates, totalling 62 beneficiaries.

According to him, 32 shops have already been rented and stocked for immediate operation, while monitoring and supervisory committees have been constituted to ensure the initiative’s effectiveness and sustainability.

“After six months or one year, the committees are expected to submit progress reports that will determine whether the shops will be permanently handed over to the beneficiaries,” Aminu stated.

In a goodwill message, the Zamfara State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tukur Umar Danfulani—represented by the Party’s Welfare Secretary, Alhaji Bashir Idris Ataka—commended the lawmaker for his commitment to grassroots development.

“We are proud of your efforts. Keep up the good work. Your dedication to improving the lives of your constituents is evident and commendable,” he said.

Some of the beneficiaries described the initiative as life-changing, expressing appreciation for the opportunity.

One of them, Mansura Danjari from Kwatarkwashi Ward, said the intervention came at a critical time.

“Insha Allah, this will touch the lives of the masses and bring relief to our people. I will ensure Zanna is proud of this initiative,” she said.

The Zannan Bungudu Lafiya Jari Project forms part of the lawmaker’s broader vision to reduce unemployment and enhance healthcare delivery, with a focus on building a self-reliant and economically active youth population.
