The Chairman of the Jigawa State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government Affairs, Alhaji Aminu Zakari, says the committee postponed its scheduled tour of the 27 local government councils for the second quarter of 2024 due to the recent local government elections.
He explained that the decision was taken to give newly elected council officials enough time to settle down and commence activities before evaluating their performance.
Alhaji Aminu Zakari made this known at the Sule Tankarkar Local Government Secretariat during the continuation of the committee’s oversight visit for 2025.
He noted that the committee’s focus is to assess the 2024/2025 approved budgets, progress reports, list of capital projects along with supporting vouchers, cashbooks, revenue records, and minutes of both executive and legislative council meetings, to ensure compliance with financial regulations and administrative procedures.
As part of the exercise, Subcommittee A, led by the member representing Kanya Babba Constituency, Malam Ibrahim Hashim Kanya, inspected a five-daily-prayer mosque project at Rugar Danqulili; hand pumps at Gabala/Dangwanki, Yanyawai, Fulanin Tagai, and Rugar Hardo Daudu; midwives quarters at Jeke Primary Health Center; and an irrigation scheme at Maitsamiya.
On the other hand, Subcommittee B, led by the member representing Guri Constituency, Alhaji Usman Abdullahi Tura Musari, visited a solar-powered water scheme at Sule Gabas; the Hammado Juma’at Mosque project; a modern Tsangaya school at Danladi; a five-daily-prayer mosque at the local government duplex; and a hand pump at Gidan Idi Ruwa.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Sule Tankarkar Local Government Council, Malam Tasi’u Adamu, commended the committee’s efforts and noted that the assessment of administrative and financial documents would go a long way in enhancing service delivery at the grassroots.
Malam Tasi’u expressed hope that the visit would lead to meaningful deliberations and positive outcomes that will support the development of the local area.
